Kilkenny City and County Councils recently voted to proceed with the purchase of the St. Francis Abbey brewery (Smithwicks-Diageo) site, with acquisition expected in 2014/2015.
The future use of the lands is of strategic importance to the economic and social development of the City and County of Kilkenny. The total area of the lands available for purchase is 10.6 acres. The lands exclude the Saint Francis Abbey National Monument which is in state ownership.
