FAO  John McCormack - Director of Services

I refer to your letter dated 19th June 2013 regarding:

Proposed Addition of free standing single bay single storey granite ashlar pedimented Greek Revival Mausoleum, built1810, on a square plan, Church Street, Inistioge to Kilkenny County Council’s Record of Protected Structures in accordance with the Planning and Development Act, 2000 - 2012.

The Structure referred to is the Tighe family’s Mausoleum in the churchyard at Inistioge which contains the grave of Mary Tighe who died 24th March 1810. It is a locked building which  is not open to the General Public.

I have sought the views of the Tighe family in connection with the above proposal and the consensus of opinion is that the above structure is not of significant quality or merit to justify its addition to the Council’s Record of Protected Structures.  As such, the family do not support the proposal to include this structure in the List of Protected Properties referred to above and suggest that this property should thus be excluded from the above intention.

                  Yours Sincerely

                      Antony Tighe
