Dear Mr. McCormack,

I refer to the Notifications of 19th June 2013 sent to Mount Juliet in relation to the proposed additions to the Record of Protected Structures referenced above.

On behalf of Mount Juliet, I wish to provide the Planning Authority with the following information:

  1. Re:  ADD/197/13,  Farmyard Complex;

The structures described in the Notification and the NIAH Record no longer exist.  These buildings comprised the former equestrian centre at Mount Juliet but they were demolished under Planning Permission 04/1165 to allow construction of the Walled Garden Lodges project (10 no. residential units).

As such, the buildings described in the Notification cannot be included in the RPS.

  1. Re: ADD/198/13,  Kennels Complex

Please note the Kennels are not in the ownership of Mount Juliet and are operated independently by the Estate of the Kilkenny Hunt.

  1. Re:  ADD/199/13, Kitchen Garden Complex;

Mount Juliet acknowledge the special architectural interest of the kitchen garden complex.   However, Mount Juliet wish to bring the following to the attention of the Planning Authority;

·         The gardeners house identified in Item (i) of the Notification was incorporated into Unit No. 1 of the Walled Garden Lodges under Planning Permission 06/1134.  This building has been significantly remodelled and the description in the NIAH Record is no longer accurate. On this basis, Mount Juliet consider its inclusion in the RPS is not warranted. .

·         The Notification describes Item (ii) within the kitchen garden complex as “detached single bay, single storey, gable fronted house”  There is a typological error in this description and it should read “detached single bay, single storey, gable fronted glasshouseas per the NIAH Record (12402829).

·         The derelict 12-bay single storey glasshouse identified in Item (iv) of the Notification no longer exists. Permission to remove this structure was granted under Planning Permission 07/2032 as part of the development of the 180 cubic metre fire-fighting water storage tank serving the Estate.

As such, this structure cannot be included in the RPS.

  1. Re:  ADD/200/13 – Old Town Gate Lodge;

The Old Town Gate Lodge was altered and extended under Planning Permission 05/647. The NIAH Record of the lodge is therefore inaccurate and the inclusion of the building in the RPS should be reassessed in the light of the current configuration.

I trust this information is helpful to the Planning Authority at this time and will assist in improving the accuracy of the Record of Protected Structures.
